Andusia’s Fraser at NPAG’s Waste Management Group in May

Andusia’s Hazardous Waste Manager, Fraser Cutting, will be discussing clinical waste at NPAG’s next group meeting on 2ndMay, 11am. Taking place at Jury’s Inn in Birmingham, Fraser’s presentation entitled ‘Clinical Waste, and everything you were afraid to ask’ – is just that, an informative presentation on all things clinical waste.

The NPAG Waste Management BVG is a long established and very successful group of Waste Managers and specialists from across the NHS. The group offers a welcoming environment to raise issues that members face daily, discuss experiences, offer solutions and initiatives, and overall to support each other in the complex task of waste disposal in healthcare.

Defra update – The Waste Industry in a No-Deal Scenario

This week, in a meeting organised by Defra, Government officials and representatives of the HMRC met with exporters of waste to further discuss the effects of Brexit, whatever the outcome come 29th.

During the meeting, it was once again confirmed that there would be no impact on existing or new TFS applications, whether the UK leave the EU with or without a deal. But there would still be possible delays with regards to truck deliveries and hold-ups at port during any transition period following the Brexit decision.

After a presentation from the HMRC, what was highlighted, was the effect a possible no-deal result could have on the waste industry, from both a customs and VAT perspective.

Another Landfill Tax Increase in April 2019

The UK Government’s tax on landfill increases year on year. Come April 2019, for the first time, the tax will be above £90 when it is goes from £88.95 a tonne to £91.35, then jumping to £94.15 per tonne in April 2020.

Also taking into consideration site gate fees and transport – landfill is an extremely unattractive prospect for those in the waste management industry.

Andusia Discuss Brexit

Last month, Andusia Director, Mark Terrell, spoke on a panel at the Energy From Waste Conference in London. Now in its 15th year, the Energy from Waste conference brings together an international audience of more than 250 of the sector’s thought leaders and key decision makers for unrivalled senior-level industry debate.

During the two-day event, Mark joined an expert panel to discuss issues around post-Brexit changes in onshore and offshore movements, regional flows of materials, spare capacity and the long-term role of RDF exports and labour and customs implications.
