Andusia’s Stoke EfW Plant Secures Permit

Andusia are happy to announce that the Stoke-based clinical waste treatment plant, of which they are the sole supplier, has hit a key milestone in its development.

The Environment Agency (EA) has issued a permit to energy-from-waste plant developer Waste Energy Power Partners (WEPP) for the Stoke facility. The Waste Industry and Andusia Remain Resilient

As England looks towards something close to normal from 19th July, Andusia reflect on the continual resilience shown by the waste industry and the steps taken to overcome the roadblocks affecting waste management.

Inevitably, with exports down by 37% in 2020 compared to the previous year (published by the Environment Agency), the waste industry shows significant influences from the coronavirus pandemic. Nonetheless, Andusia demonstrates strength after strength, after reporting a decrease of 11% in exports, comparative to 58-69% decrease from competitors.

How did we manage that? Our expertise, agile approach, but most importantly our ability to adapt. Afterall, Darwin states “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one most adaptable to change”.

Andusia Expand Into New Office Premises

We are moving! It has been a busy few months behind the scenes, and Andusia are now happy to announce that due to business growth, we have moved to new offices.

Andusia launched in 2012, and the company quickly established themselves as the UK’s largest independent exporter of RDF waste across Europe. Over this time, the company operated out of offices located in Hertford town centre (Hertfordshire).

Since launch, Andusia have extended their expertise and expanded into other areas of the waste industry – both in Europe and closer to home here in the UK. Due to such expansion, the business had outgrown the old premises and looking to the future, the decision was made to remain in Hertford but move to larger facilities. In fact, the newly refurbished offices are almost 3 times the size of the old!

Andusia Confirm Waste Volumes Stable

With so-called ‘Freedom Day’ previously planned for 21st June having been extended, Andusia take the opportunity to look once more at the effects of coronavirus on UK waste volumes.

In March, the Environment Agency reported that RDF exports fell by 37% in 2020 versus the previous year. A fall undoubtedly influenced by the coronavirus pandemic and the UK’s lockdown. Supporting this, according to data reported by both Veolia and Suez UK, the amount of waste generated in commercial and industrial workplaces drastically reduced by 50%. In contrast, with families at home, municipal waste increased by 20%.

At the time, Andusia anticipated that the impact of Covid-19 on waste volumes ‘would quickly dissipate’, and we, as a company, have already seen this come to fruition. Andusia can confidently report that, although waste volumes are not back to pre-covid levels, they have reached a stable level for which we do not see going on the decline again.

Stoke Based Clinical Waste Plant Well Underway

Construction of the Stoke-based clinical waste treatment plant, of which Andusia are sole supplier, is well underway. Progress has continued this month with EfW developer, Waste Energy Power Partners (WEPP) applying for the plants environmental permit. The Environment Agency have opened consultation on the permit, running until 4th June.

The plant, located on Scotia Road, Stoke-on-Trent, is due to be operational this Summer.

Andusia Sign Contract with Chambers Waste Management

Andusia are pleased to announce they have signed a two year contract with family-run, Guildford based Chambers Waste Management plc.

The new contract marks Andusia’s long standing relationship with Chambers and will see approximately 22,500 tonnes per annum of RDF being sent to several Energy from Waste plants across Northern Europe. The waste will be recovered and used to create energy and electricity, avoiding UK landfill.
